Brian has many years experience in the information technology industry, spanning the public and private sectors, and the telecommunications, electronics, manufacturing, primary industry, defence, and legal sectors. Brian's roles have included technical management, business analysis, and systems design and implementation.
He has worked in public and private organisations in a range of roles including Operations Manager, Systems Developer, and Design Engineer. He originally qualified as a professional engineer at Canterbury University, and after a career in electronic and microprocessor engineering he added a post-graduate degree in business management.
Brian has worked in numerous application areas including business information systems, content management systems, intranets, web sites, and industrial control and data capture and reporting systems.
Brian is an experienced developer of business applications and systems using the Microsoft .NET platform, for Windows and the web; Microsoft SQL server databases; and Active Server Pages (.aspx). His current tools of choice are C#, jQuery, AngularJS, CSS, and SQL server.
He also has experience in development work on the Unix platform, where he has developed bespoke text processing systems and intranet applications. He has experience in C, shell scripting, PHP, and MySQL.
Brian also develops software for embedded microprocessor systems for use in industrial and horticultural systems. This work is primarily in C and assembler.
